Katy Laster joined Evans Petree PC as an associate in August 2007, after receiving her Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis’ Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law. Ms. Laster concentrates her practice on employment law, health care law, and commercial litigation. She primarily advises clients on a variety of employment matters including non-solicitation and non-competition agreements, employee handbooks, and employee classification under the FLSA, as well as a variety of healthcare matters including the application of fraud and abuse laws (such as Stark, the False Claims Act, the federal Anti-kickback statute and state self-referral laws), HIPAA compliance issues, and negotiating contractual relationships with employees, independent contractors and third parties. Ms. Laster has also represented clients in cases involving employment discrimination, restrictive covenants, civil rights, healthcare, education and numerous areas of commercial law, was elected to serve as a member of the Memphis Bar Association’s Leadership Forum, and currently serves as the head of the firms’ ethics committee.
In addition to her legal work, Katy is the mother of three boys, and she is committed to supporting various charitable and community organizations that are close to the lives of her family, such as the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society and Wilson Animal Rescue.
